Description

Teaching English to young learners is most effective when learning is simple, engaging, and enjoyable. While ready-made songs and chants are widely used in primary classrooms, they may not always fully meet learners’ specific needs. This presentation explores how combining ready-made materials with teacher-created songs and chants can enhance language learning in more flexible and meaningful ways. The presentation aims to demonstrate how simple, teacher-designed rhythmic activities can support vocabulary development, improve pronunciation, and build speaking confidence among primary learners. With practical and easy-to-follow steps, teachers can create short, catchy songs and chants tailored to their own teaching contexts, topics, and student levels. Drawing on real classroom experience, the presentation provides practical examples of how these activities can be integrated at different stages of a lesson, from warm-up to practice and consolidation. The use of rhythm and repetition not only increases student engagement and participation, but also improves retention, particularly for shy learners who may be less confident in speaking. Overall, the findings suggest that teacher creativity, combined with simple rhythmic techniques, can significantly enhance both engagement and communicative competence in young learners. The session offers practical ideas that teachers can readily adapt to make English learning more effective, interactive, and enjoyable in their own classrooms.
