Description
Viet Nam has recently introduced the policy of targeting to gradually make English the second language (ESL) in Vietnamese schools by the year 2035 . From now on, local governments and schools are prepraring resources and other conditions needed to implement the enactment of English embedded in school curriculum and teaching activities. Given that teachers are a crucial cadre of transforming this policy into practice, this study explores English teachers’ perspectives regarding what and how they believe, think, and commit to doing in their profession. The participants were three experienced English-as-a-foreign-language teachers at a primary school in a rural area of Viet Nam. The data were based on in-depth interviews with the teachers at their teaching sites. The findings showed that the teachers were ready to adopt changes in school despite professional and technical difficulties in their everyday teaching. From the findings, implications are discussed and suggested for local government and school leaders.
