Description
Creating meaningful assessments is an essential part of English language teaching, yet designing quizzes, setting answer keys, grading responses, and providing feedback can require considerable time and effort. By leveraging accessible digital tools, educators can streamline assessment practices while enhancing the learning experience.
This hands-on workshop will demonstrate how automated quiz design can support efficient and effective assessment in ELT classrooms using America250 historical and cultural resources. The presenters will showcase practical approaches to designing digital quizzes that automatically score, provide immediate feedback, and organize student performance data using America250 materials. Participants will analyze examples of assessment tasks adaptable for various proficiency levels and teaching contexts.
In addition, participants will evaluate the benefits of automated assessment—such as reduced administrative workload, instant feedback, and data-driven progress monitoring—while addressing common implementation challenges. Common challenges and practical considerations for implementation will also be addressed.
The session will offer hands-on ideas and classroom-ready strategies that teachers can immediately apply in their own contexts. Attendees will collaborate to draft a template for an automated quiz using ready-made strategies. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped to build efficient digital assessments that support student learning through timely, actionable feedback

YIEM SOPHAEUN
English Teacher | English Access Scholarship Program Instructor
Yiem Sophaeun is an English Access Scholarship Program Instructor and a teacher trainee at the Regional Teacher Training Centre in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. She works with secondary school students to develop English language proficiency, leadership skills, and intercultural understanding. Her professional interests include educational technology, digital assessment, and innovative, learner-centered instruction. She is passionate about sharing practical strategies that help fellow educators integrate technology effectively into their classrooms.
PLOANG CHAKREYA

Ploang Chakreya is an English teacher for the Access Program at the Green Shoots Foundation in Oddar Meanchey Province, Cambodia, where she has taught young learners since 2019. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, combining strong analytical skills with a passion for language education. Alongside her teaching career, she serves as a dedicated civil servant. Chakreya is deeply committed to youth empowerment, community-based learning initiatives, and expanding access to English education to open future global opportunities for Cambodian learners.
