The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought significant changes to language education, offering new opportunities to support teachers’ instructional practices. Among these technologies, ChatGPT has emerged as a useful tool for assisting English language teachers in lesson planning. This study investigates the use of ChatGPT in high school English lesson planning, with the aim of identifying practical strategies for teachers in the Vietnamese context.
Adopting a classroom-based qualitative approach, the study explores how ChatGPT can be used to generate lesson plans, design classroom activities, and create language exercises. Data were collected through a series of lesson planning tasks supported by ChatGPT, along with reflective observations from actual teaching practices. The findings suggest that ChatGPT can enhance efficiency, provide diverse instructional ideas, and support creative lesson design. However, several limitations were identified, including issues related to content appropriateness, contextual relevance, and the need for careful teacher adaptation.
Based on these findings, the study proposes practical strategies for effectively integrating ChatGPT into lesson planning. It emphasizes the importance of teachers’ critical role in evaluating and adapting AI-generated content to suit students’ needs. The study contributes to the growing body of research on AI in language education by offering practical implications for high school teachers.

Her full name is Đào Thị Hoà Quỳnh from Khoai Chau High school Hưng Yên, Viet Nam. After graduating from Hanoi National University, she has worked as a high school English teacher for over 15 years in her home town. In many teaching years, she not only wants to find out to improve effective teaching methods but also holds successfully many activities, contests in her school. She pursues innovation in teaching and active teaching methods. So she always keeps learning and spread the spirit of positive teaching to teachers all around Vietnam.
