Description

Listening is one of the most challenging skills for EFL learners, especially at lower levels, where authentic materials often feel too fast or complex. Teachers also face difficulties in creating effective worksheets that balance comprehension with engagement. This session presents an innovative solution: using AI tools such as automated transcription and language models to design video listening worksheets. According to recent findings, AI offers new possibilities for developing materials that better match learners’ needs and levels (Huang et al., 2023). These materials can be tailored to low-level learners by simplifying vocabulary, adding scaffolded tasks, and breaking content into manageable steps, while still being engaging for higher levels. They can be used flexibly as both classroom resources and self-instructional tools. This session is especially relevant for new teachers seeking time-saving, adaptable resources for both classroom instruction and independent learning tasks.

Biography

Chea Davit holds a Master of Education (M.Ed) and a Bachelor of Education in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP). His academic training is rooted in contemporary pedagogical approaches, with a strong emphasis on fostering learner autonomy, academic literacy, and effective communication in English language teaching.

With over six years of teaching experience, Davit has served as a Lecturer of English at RUPP’s English Language Support Unit and as a Teacher of English at the Australian Centre for Education (ACE), where he designs learner-centered, task-based courses for multi-level learners. Beyond the classroom, he has contributed to institutional projects such as CAMDebate and CamTESOL, and as Head of Speaker Coordination for TEDx Phnom Penh, he has mentored diverse speakers to deliver impactful presentations, further sharpening his leadership and coaching skills.

As an educator, Davit envisions language learning as a transformative process that goes beyond fluency to cultivate critical thinking, empathy, and civic responsibility. He believes that English instruction should empower students to become confident, reflective, and socially engaged individuals who contribute meaningfully to their communities and navigate the complexities of the 21st century with integrity and purpose.
