Description

This paper examines the effectiveness of incorporating Quizlet and Flipped Classroom model into English teaching and learning at a high school in Ninh Binh Province. The traditional teaching model of English teaching has become passive learning, limited classroom interaction and low rate of English knowledge retention in the era of educational innovation and digital transformation. The study is based on the theory of using technology and incorporating learner-centered pedagogy in language learning to enhance students' engagement, word retention, communication competence, and self-study skills by utilizing digital learning tools and interactive classroom activities. Vocabulary and learning materials were studied independently with Quizlet flash cards, games and activities before class. Teachers designed collaborative activities, group discussions, presentations, communicative activities and vocabulary reinforcement in class through Kahoot and learner centric teaching approach. This approach was implemented with great positive results. Pupils became more active and confident in their use of English, had a wider range of vocabulary and were more involved in their learning. Furthermore, the approach enabled the development of learner autonomy, teamwork, communication skills and digital competence. This also allowed teachers to lower their direct teaching of vocabulary and increase time for authentic language and interaction. The results show that the application of Quizlet in the concept of the Flipped Classroom is an effective, practical and flexible solution to enhance the English teaching and learning process in Vietnamese High School.
