Description

In recent years, the application of gamified learning platforms has become essential in teaching and learning English. One of the powerful gamified learning platforms is Quizizz. The aim of this research is to explore the effectiveness of Quizizz in learning English vocabulary. Vocabulary plays an important part in four English skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Its limitation can affect the language comprehension ability. This research uses the Classroom Action Research design (CAR). The research subject includes 20 non-English majored students Class 70QLDA1 in the Faculty of Construction Economics and Management at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering in the academic years of 2024/2025. This research was implemented in two cycles in which the research data were gathered from observations, questionnaires and tests. With the mean score of 65.3 in cycle I, there was a slight improvement in students’ vocabulary command compared to that before Quizizz was applied in the lessons. After cycle II, with the mean score of 82.6, students’ vocabulary command was considerably improved compared to that in cycle I. Quizizz game is motivating, enjoyable, engaging as Quizizz provides immediate feedback, a highly interactive interface designed to encourage students to engage in learning vocabulary positively. This research results illustrate that Quizizz proves to be an efficient and practical tool for students in learning vocabulary.
