Description

Digital learning platforms have become increasingly prevalent in English language education in Vietnam. However, concerns remain regarding their effectiveness in enhancing learning outcomes and learner engagement, particularly in low-resourced teaching contexts. This study investigated the effectiveness of IELTS eHub, a technology-enhanced self-paced platform developed for IELTS learners, in improving students’ performance and engagement levels. The study was informed by the concept of self-access center (SAC) as a means of fostering learner autonomy and deployed the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as an analytical framework to examine both learning outcomes and learner attitudes. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, whereby pre- and post-test results across the four IELTS skills and survey data were obtained and analyzed, measuring perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and behavioral intention toward the platform. The findings revealed statistically significant improvements in learners’ overall performance, especially in Reading and Listening scores, which proved the support of structured self-paced practice towards receptive skill development. In addition, the survey using TAM constructs indicated generally positive learner perceptions of the platform’s usability and learning value. Pedagogical implications for IELTS teachers, students regarding the integration of technology-enhanced self-access learning platforms in IELTS preparation are discussed, along with recommendations for further research.
