Description
Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) has become increasingly significant in contemporary EFL contexts due to the rapid growth of digital learning platforms, tools, and mobile applications. Nevertheless, selecting an appropriate digital tool to support the teaching and learning process requires strategic and systematic evaluation to ensure pedagogical effectiveness and the achievement of teaching and learning objectives. This presentation introduces practical approaches to CALL evaluation, followed by a demonstration of website evaluation in practice. First, this presentation introduces how educational digital resources and applications can be evaluated, drawing on the approaches proposed by Levy and Stockwell, including checklists, surveys, interviews, tests, observations, and reports. It then explores major evaluation frameworks, including Hubbard’s methodological framework, Chapelle’s SLA-based framework, and Rosell-Aguilar’s framework for evaluating language learning mobile applications. Finally, this presentation demonstrates how a website called ER-Central is evaluated using a framework proposed by Hubbard that focuses its attention on teacher fit and learner fit. Drawing on key approaches and theoretical frameworks with practical application, this presentation helps language educators develop a more critical and informed perspective toward educational technology integration. Participants will gain practical insights into selecting, evaluating, and implementing CALL tools that support meaningful language learning experiences inside and beyond the classroom in EFL contexts.
