Description

Paraphrasing is a vital academic skill for comprehension, source integration, and avoiding plagiarism. This study investigated a multi-strategy, learner-centered approach to paraphrasing instruction in IELTS preparation at Dong Nai University with 75 fourth-year students targeting Band 6.5–7.0. Over four weeks, instruction combined strategy training, guided practice, collaboration, and reflection. Data from tests, observations, questionnaires, and peer reviews revealed a 10% rise in average writing scores (67.8 → 74.5), a 19% reduction in grammatical errors, and a 16% increase in lexical variety. Confidence also improved, with 72% of students reporting greater self-assurance in their writing abilities. While coherence gains were observed in 64% of participants, these remained less consistent compared to other areas. Findings suggest that short-term structured interventions can meaningfully enhance paraphrasing proficiency, language accuracy, and learner confidence.
