Description

Blended learning, which intergrates the strengths of traditional classroom activities and online learning, has increasingly gained prominence in global education and training in this modern world. This study investigates the role of blended learning in fostering learner autonomy and increasing engagement among first-year non-English major students at the University of Transport Technology (UTT) within the rapidly evolving context of English learning and teaching in Vietnam. Questionnaires and interviews were the study’s primary data collection methods. Questionnaires were distributed to 200 first-year non-English major students to explore their perceptions of blended learning, learner autonomy, and engagement in English learning. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 lecturers teaching General English courses at UTT to gain deeper insights into the effectiveness and challenges of implementing blended learning in the teaching context. The findings are expected to reveal that blended learning positively contributes to students’ ability to study independently, manage their learning process, and participate more actively in learning activities. The study also aims to identify factors influencing the effectiveness of blended learning, including students’ motivation, technological support, teaching methods, and online learning resources. These findings may offer practical implications for English language teaching practices and curriculum development in the Vietnamese educational setting in the digital era.
