Description
Artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping how learners engage with English language learning through personalized support, immediate feedback, and self-directed learning opportunities. As AI becomes more integrated into educational settings, educators face the challenge of promoting learner autonomy while maintaining meaningful pedagogical practices and human interaction. This presentation examines how human-centered AI integration can support learner autonomy development in English language education through the TPACK framework. The presentation discusses how technological knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and content knowledge can be meaningfully integrated to design learning experiences that encourage learner agency, reflection, critical thinking, and self-regulation. Drawing on classroom practices and teacher training experiences, the session explores practical approaches to using AI to support adaptive learning, inquiry-based activities, and reflective language learning. The presentation also addresses challenges associated with AI integration, including overreliance on technology, the production of superficial language, and ethical concerns regarding learner engagement. Participants will gain practical insights into how AI can be integrated in pedagogically sound, human-centered ways to foster learner autonomy across diverse English-language learning contexts while preserving the essential role of teachers in guiding meaningful learning experiences.
