Description
With Decision No. 2371/QĐ-TTg, Vietnamese government is ambitiously moving English toward a second-language role in schools for the period 2025-2035. Therefore, high-school learners are now expected to use English in exchange activities and experiences inside and outside school. In response to this movement, several student-centered methodologies have been widely embraced in classrooms, one of which is project-based language teaching, as seen in the Project lessons of the Global Success textbooks. Although project-based learning is reported to enhance language use in authentic contexts, challenges such as unequal group contributions are still present when students conduct English-based projects (Nhan, L. T., 2025). Furthermore, digital literacy, a dominant competence of the 21st century, is believed to have a positive effect on students’ teamwork as students with stronger digital competences may collaborate better in academic tasks (Salazar Palomino, Sandra, et a, 2025). Therefore, this study aims to investigate the correlation between digital literacy and collaboration skills among Vietnamese 10th-grade students when conducting English projects using technology. The research employed a mixed-method approach in which data was collected through two open-ended questionnaires and focus group discussions from around 60 tenth-graders at Le Quy Don High School for Gifted Students, Gia Lai. The results revealed that with strengthened digital literacy via technology-supported project-based learning, students demonstrated more-balancing role sharing and better project coordination. The anticipated findings are expected to contribute to the ongoing adoption of project-based language teaching in classrooms, thereby supporting learners’ English performance and preparing them for the era of international integration.
