Description

The growing emphasis on learner-centered education in Vietnam has stimulated increasing interest in Open Educational Resources (OER) and open pedagogical practices in higher education. Nevertheless, the adoption of open textbooks remains limited and largely instructor-driven, with minimal student involvement, particularly in economics education, where learning materials require continual updating and practical relevance. This study examines the potential for student–instructor collaboration in open textbook development through feedback and co-authorship. A mixed-methods approach was employed, integrating quantitative and qualitative data collected through online questionnaires and short semi-structured interviews across multiple academic majors at a Vietnamese university. A total of 230 valid responses were analyzed, including 180 students (78.3%) and 50 lecturers (21.7%). The findings reveal differences in student engagement according to academic major, year of study, and gender. Students in economics and business-related disciplines, senior students, and female students demonstrated higher levels of engagement in contributing to and sharing learning materials. The study underscores the need for collaborative model of open textbook development in fostering a more sustainable academic culture amid digital transformation and internationalization in higher education.
