Description
While Arts and Crafts are popular project-based activities in the EFL curriculum, they traditionally overemphasize manual crafting at the expense of active language production and modern digital literacy. This action research explores the effectiveness of integrating digital transformation into Arts and Crafts projects to foster English language proficiency and digital skills among 50 8th-grade students at Hai Van Secondary School.
The study implemented a comprehensive tech-integrated framework consisting of four main phases: (1) Digital Sketching, utilizing Canva for idea conceptualization and vocabulary building; (2) Digital Tutorials, where students scripted, practiced pronunciation via AI tools, and produced DIY instructional videos using CapCut; (3) Virtual Galleries, employing Padlet for multimodal exhibitions and authentic peer reviews; and (4) Digital Assessment, using interactive platforms like Liveworksheets and Azota for data-driven evaluation.
Findings from the pedagogical observation and surveys revealed a remarkable increase in student engagement (from 45% to 96%) and substantial improvements in their confidence in English presentations. Furthermore, students successfully transitioned from passive device users to creative digital citizens, aligning with the new Digital Competency Framework for educators and learners. The study contributes a culturally responsive and scalable model for EFL teachers to optimize creative projects, bridge the digital divide, and build a dynamic digital learning ecosystem.
