Description

Grounded in Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) principles, this workshop demonstrates how teachers can analyse teaching materials and practices, distinguish between exercises and tasks, and create engaging, age-appropriate and communicative tasks to teach Vietnamese young language learners in alignment with the General Education English Language Curriculum 2018. The session also highlights how teachers can use GenAI tools, alongside their own informed knowledge of TBLT, to support them in creating tasks to enhance learners' active language use. The workshop will be conducted following a Teacher Activity Group (TAG) Approach, which highlights reflection, peer collaboration, and teacher identity. Specifically, participants will reflect on their self as a teacher and their teaching experience in connecting English language learning with authentic language use to promote their learners' communicative competence. Then, they will engage in collaborative and hands-on activities, exploring the core features of TBLT, evaluating sample materials, and adapting tasks of different types to teach their particular groups of learners. By the end of the workshop, teacher participants are expected to be inspired to reimagine their beliefs and practice about English teaching and learning alongside their colleagues, taking into consideration their teacher identity and the specific social, cultural, and political features of their teaching practice.
