Description
Since the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the field of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching has undergone profound transformations. However, there remains a lack of empirical research on pre-service teachers’ perceptions of ethical AI use in Vietnam. Drawing on the Technological Pedagogical Content Ethical Knowledge (TPCEK) framework, this study investigates pre-service EFL teachers’ perceptions of AI ethics and its implications for teaching practices. Employing a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, quantitative data were first collected through a survey of third-year students (N = 36), followed by semi-structured interviews (N = 12) to provide deeper insights. The quantitative findings indicate that participants hold positive attitudes toward the educational potentials of AI and report high levels of self-perceived readiness regarding the TPCEK framework, while also expressing moderate to high levels of concern regarding ethical risks in classroom contexts. Qualitative analysis further reveals a lack of formal training frameworks, resulting in uncertainty when implementing technology responsibly. Based on these empirical findings, the study proposes the systematic integration of AI ethics training into teacher education programs, aiming to equip future educators with both technological competence and strong ethical awareness in the digital era.
