Description

To empower learners’ critical awareness of gender balance and create progressively inclusive classrooms, educators have a significant role in curating learning materials that serve as catalysts for change (Alameddine & Chehimi, 2024). Gender socialisation’s impact is evaluated by the level at which it is integrated into the learning materials as Hoang and Tam (2026) explain. According to Njeri Muasya (2021), facilitating gender equality and equity is realised with proper gender-related inclusion subjects, courses or units. The Vietnamese government’s national strategy on Gender Equality for the period 2021-2030 commits on reforming and embedding gender equality content in education (Dang et al., 2024). This session focuses on supporting this strategy by inspiring educators to advocate for valuing gender diversity in developing inclusive ESL materials. A detailed guide that I have developed will be shared. It demonstrates methods of identifying the influential factors, key steps to formulating content objectives and selecting resources, in addition to means of evaluating impact. The guide supports developing multi-lesson unit or stand-alone lesson materials; hence, it could be easily adapted to different lesson formats. The session is valuable for educators who are keen on exploring ESL material development and creating inclusive learning environments where learners are encouraged to value gender balance and champion for their rights.
