Description
Mobile-assisted language learning has become increasingly common in English education due to the growing use of smartphones and educational applications among lower secondary school students. In Vietnam’s changing educational context, mobile technologies provide students with more opportunities to practice English beyond the traditional classroom. This poster presentation reports on a small-scale study investigating how mobile devices support English learning among lower secondary school students. The study explores students’ learning experiences, perceived benefits, and challenges related to the use of mobile applications for vocabulary learning, listening practice, pronunciation, and classroom interaction. Data were collected through questionnaires and classroom observations involving students in English classes. Preliminary findings indicate that mobile-assisted learning increases student engagement, motivation, and confidence in using English. Students were able to practice English more flexibly both inside and outside the classroom. However, several challenges were identified, including distraction from non-educational content and inconsistent learning habits. The presentation discusses practical implications for integrating mobile technologies effectively into English teaching for young learners in Vietnamese lower secondary schools.
