Description
In an effort to improve English speaking competence among 10th-grade students, this study investigates the application of active learning techniques combined with digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in English language teaching. The research aims to address two key questions: (1) To what extent do active learning strategies integrated with digital tools enhance students’ speaking skills? (2) How do students perceive the use of technology and AI in developing their oral communication abilities? A quasi-experimental design was conducted with 120 grade 10 students, divided into a control group receiving traditional instruction and an experimental group exposed to innovative teaching approaches. The experimental group participated in various interactive activities such as project-based learning, presentations, role-plays, communicative interviews, and English club events. In addition, students utilized digital tools and AI applications to support idea generation, pronunciation practice, feedback, and collaborative learning. Data were collected through pre- and post-speaking tests, classroom observations, and student questionnaires. The findings revealed that students in the experimental group showed significant improvement in fluency, confidence, and interaction skills compared to those in the control group. Moreover, most students expressed positive attitudes toward the integration of technology, emphasizing increased engagement, motivation, and opportunities for authentic communication. These results suggest that combining active learning methods with digital technology and AI offers innovative and effective solutions for enhancing English speaking skills. Therefore, it is recommended that educators adopt such approaches to create dynamic, student-centered learning environments in high school contexts.
