Description

As Vietnam implements its national roadmap (2025–2035) to reposition English from a Foreign Language (EFL) to a Second Language (ESL), developing Grade 3 speaking skills faces significant methodological challenges. This paper addresses the common misconception that merely increasing speaking practice improves proficiency, a mindset that often leads to linguistic "fossilization".
The study proposes a pedagogical framework grounded in the Input – Intake - Output mechanism. At its core, the solution prioritizes providing "comprehensible input" through authentic digital materials to establish a solid linguistic foundation before requiring production. The paper also provides guidance on applying AI in instructional design through context-rich prompt engineering, graded language, and clear pedagogical objectives to avoid superficial "vibe-teaching".
Findings indicate that designing tasks that encourage "noticing" and deep interaction with digital content facilitates natural language internalization. These solutions not only enhance fluency but also ensure linguistic accuracy for primary students within a digital transformation context. The study offers practical implications for curriculum redesign and teacher professional development to support Vietnam's ESL-oriented future.
