Description
This presentation explores the development of an AI-powered learning ecosystem designed to transform English teaching and learning in a rural lower-secondary context. The initiative emerged from practical classroom challenges, including limited opportunities for English communication, low learner confidence among ethnic minority students, and teachers’ workload in lesson planning, material design, and individualized learner support.
Rather than using AI tools separately, the project organized them into an interconnected pedagogical ecosystem where teachers, learners, and AI continuously interact to support teaching, learning, feedback, and improvement. The ecosystem integrates three layers of interaction: teacher–AI collaboration for lesson design and material creation; experiential teacher–learner engagement through multimedia activities and digital tasks; and personalized learner–AI interaction through self-paced practice and immediate feedback. Together, these layers form a continuous learning cycle connecting instruction, participation, reflection, and growth.
The model was implemented in a lower-secondary English lesson on Energy Sources using AI – generated multimedia content, interactive learning platforms, and automated pronunciation support. Classroom observations, learner surveys, reflections from teachers and parents, and learning records indicated increased learner engagement, greater confidence in speaking, stronger self-directed learning behaviors, and improved teaching efficiency.
QR-linked lesson materials, student products, and classroom implementation evidence included in the poster illustrate how the ecosystem operates in practice. This presentation highlights how AI can function as an integrated pedagogical component in transforming secondary English education while maintaining the central role of teachers in creating inclusive and participatory learning experiences.
