Description

The rapid adoption of generative AI tools, particularly ChatGPT and Gemini, has fundamentally changed how students learn English. This study examines how Vietnamese non-English majors integrate these tools into their daily language learning and investigates their understanding of academic integrity. Using a quantitative survey design, we collected data from 200 non-English major undergraduates at TDU in Hanoi. The results show that while students regularly use AI for practical tasks like translation, grammar checks, and brainstorming, a significant "grey zone" exists in their ethical awareness. Many respondents struggle to draw a clear line between legitimate AI assistance and actual academic dishonesty. Furthermore, despite benefiting from AI's efficiency, students express clear concerns about the lack of official university guidelines and the risk of becoming overly dependent on the technology. These findings highlight a critical need for action; higher education institutions in Vietnam should establish clear AI-use policies and introduce AI literacy training to ensure students learn English ethically and effectively.

We are dedicated English lecturers with over five years of experience in higher education, specializing in teaching English to non-native speakers. Holding a Master of Arts degree in English. Throughout our career, we have successfully designed and delivered dynamic curricula that enhance students' linguistic proficiency and communication skills. Driven by a passion for educational innovation, our recent academic interests focus on the intersection of technology and language learning, particularly investigating how artificial intelligence can be effectively integrated into the classroom while maintaining academic integrity. Known for creating an engaging and supportive learning environment, We are committed to fostering critical thinking and equipping students with the essential language tools needed to succeed in an increasingly globalized and digital world.
