Description
This paper examines the integration of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and MOOC Camps in language classrooms within a higher education institution, focusing on academic recognition and implementation. Using a quantitative descriptive-survey design, data were collected from 19 English language educators across nine campuses through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and ranking.
Findings reveal that respondents are academically qualified and experienced educators with functional MOOC knowledge but only moderate engagement. While initial integration practices are evident, overall utilization remains at an emerging stage. Notably, respondents expressed strong positive attitudes toward MOOC integration, particularly in terms of pedagogical usefulness and readiness to adopt. However, ease of integration and perceived institutional support were rated comparatively lower. Key barriers include technological constraints, limited infrastructure, insufficient training, and the absence of formal academic recognition mechanisms. All proposed elements for a ten-point agenda were rated extremely important, emphasizing the need for infrastructure, faculty development, and policy frameworks.
The study concludes that sustainable integration depends on structured institutional support, policy development, and formal recognition mechanisms. It recommends strengthening infrastructure, implementing tiered professional development, institutionalizing guided training initiatives, and establishing clear standards for evaluation and academic credit.
