Description

Artificial intelligence tools are rapidly changing how English teachers create classroom materials, allowing lessons, quizzes, and activities to be generated within seconds. However, faster content production does not necessarily lead to deeper language processing or more meaningful communication. In many classrooms, students move quickly through visually polished activities without sufficient opportunities to notice language patterns, negotiate meaning, or actively construct understanding. At the same time, many teachers work in contexts where technology access is uneven or classroom device use remains limited, creating uncertainty about how AI can realistically support language learning.

This hands-on workshop explores how teachers can utilize AI-generated materials while maintaining strong pedagogical foundations for communicative language teaching. Through classroom-tested activities for pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar instruction, participants will explore how typography, visual organization, and learner-generated tasks can shape attention and reduce cognitive overload. The workshop also examines how collaborative task design can support interaction, language processing, and more meaningful classroom participation. The workshop also demonstrates practical ways to adapt outputs from tools such as NotebookLM into low-tech and classroom-friendly learning tasks that promote deeper participation rather than passive task completion.

Participants will leave with practical design principles, adaptable activity frameworks, and immediately usable strategies for creating more cognitively supportive and communicative English learning experiences in diverse teaching contexts.
