Description

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the way students learn, access information, and complete academic tasks. In a recent survey conducted by the presenter, 100% of students reported using AI tools, highlighting the urgent need for educators to move beyond debates about whether students use AI and focus instead on how they use it. While AI offers powerful opportunities for language learning, creativity, research, and personalized support, it also raises an important challenge: how can teachers ensure that students continue to think critically rather than simply depend on instant answers?

This practical and interactive workshop explores how educators can guide students to use AI ethically, responsibly, and effectively as a learning partner rather than a replacement for thinking. Participants will examine strategies for moving students beyond copy-and-paste habits toward deeper engagement, reflection, problem-solving, and independent learning. The session will demonstrate how carefully designed prompts, tasks, and classroom activities can promote analysis, evaluation, creativity, communication, and meaningful language use.

Drawing on real classroom examples, participants will experience adaptable activities that integrate AI into speaking, writing, reading, and collaborative learning. The workshop will also address academic integrity, transparency, bias, and the development of clear classroom expectations for AI use.

By the end of the session, participants will leave with practical tools, ready-to-use ideas, and greater confidence in helping students become thoughtful, ethical, and active learners in an AI-powered world.
