Speaker
Description
This poster presentation explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) voice bots, or callbots, as an innovative tool in CALL to address the persistent challenges of limited speaking practice and high anxiety in EFL contexts. While traditional classroom settings often struggle to provide individualized oral practice, interactive automated voice agents offer an accessible, low-stakes solution for real-time verbal communication. Utilizing features common in corporate callbot systems—such as automated speech recognition, natural language processing, and interactive voice response—this project models a pedagogical framework designed for language acquisition. The proposed poster illustrates how these automated systems can simulate authentic telephonic conversations, provide immediate pronunciation and grammar feedback, and deliver scaffolded listening prompts tailored to varying proficiency levels. Furthermore, the flexible, mobile-friendly nature of this technology aligns with principles of mobile-assisted language learning, enabling continuous exposure outside institutional constraints. Attendees will examine structural blueprints for conversational flows, criteria for selecting vocabulary modules, and practical strategies to implement voice bots for continuous formative assessment. Ultimately, this exhibit demonstrates that integrating accessible voice-driven AI technology effectively builds L2 speaking confidence, transforms passive study into active verbal engagement, and significantly enhances learner autonomy development in modern language education.
