Description

Low-level learners often struggle to build consistent vocabulary learning habits outside the classroom. Many students tend to study vocabulary only before examinations, focusing mainly on short-term memorization rather than meaningful understanding and language use. As a result, vocabulary knowledge is easily forgotten and learners become highly dependent on teachers for review and practice. At the same time, educational technology has become increasingly accessible in language education. When used effectively, it can promote more independent and sustainable vocabulary learning. Grounded in Strategy-based Instruction and Vocabulary Learning Strategies, this technology fair session demonstrates practical ways to encourage learner autonomy through technology-mediated vocabulary practice. Participants will experience a series of hands-on activities involving word selection, image- and sound-supported vocabulary learning tools, and AI-supported self-testing platforms for low-level learners. The session also introduces simple techniques teachers can use to monitor participation and review learner progress beyond the classroom. Through direct exploration of practical digital tools as well as classroom-friendly routines, participants will gain adaptable ideas for fostering learner autonomy and supporting lifelong vocabulary learning.
