Description

This presentation explores the practical application of ChatGPT in creating English exercises and test materials for lower secondary students in Vietnamese EFL classrooms. As part of the Technology Fair at VietTESOL 2026, the project focuses on how teachers can use AI to develop a systematic collection of prompts for designing a wide range of English learning activities, including pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, communication, reading comprehension, and writing tasks aligned with the national curriculum. The presentation also demonstrates how general prompt templates can support teachers in quickly generating classroom exercises as well as assessment materials for mid-term and final examinations, gifted student training programs, and Grade 10 entrance examinations. Through practical classroom-based examples, the project illustrates how ChatGPT can assist teachers in creating multiple-choice questions, gap-filling exercises, sentence transformation tasks, reading passages, dialogues, and communicative activities in a flexible and time-efficient way. In addition to highlighting benefits such as reducing teachers’ workload, enhancing creativity, and supporting personalized learning, the presentation also discusses challenges related to accuracy, pedagogical suitability, and the important role of teachers in reviewing and adapting AI-generated content. The project emphasizes that ChatGPT should be considered a supportive teaching assistant rather than a replacement for teachers. By integrating AI tools responsibly and creatively, educators can improve teaching effectiveness, increase student engagement, and promote meaningful and ethical applications of AI in lower secondary English education.
