Workshop Language and Linguistics Workshops

Speaker

Hamed Hashemian (Le Quy Don secondary & High school)

Description

Error correction remains one of the most sensitive yet essential aspects of language teaching, often raising questions about timing, effectiveness, and learner engagement. This highly practical workshop reimagines error treatment by placing collaboration, movement, and gamification at the heart of feedback practices. Rather than positioning the teacher as the sole authority, the session demonstrates how learners can actively participate in identifying, discussing, and correcting errors in meaningful ways.

Participants will experience two classroom-tested games designed to maximize engagement and peer contribution across mixed-ability groups. The first activity, Pass It On, transforms error correction into a dynamic, kinesthetic task where learners identify and correct spoken and written inaccuracies before exchanging their work with peers. This structured interaction fosters autonomy, critical thinking, and repeated exposure to language forms. The second activity, Group Tic-Tac-Toe, introduces a competitive yet collaborative framework using multiple symbols, encouraging teams to negotiate, justify, and refine their corrections.

Grounded in communicative language teaching and informed by extensive classroom practice, these activities have been implemented successfully in diverse contexts. Attendees will leave with adaptable, ready-to-use techniques that not only enhance accuracy but also build a classroom culture where errors are viewed as opportunities for learning, interaction, and growth.
