Abstract

This study explores the application of Google Gemini, a generative artificial intelligence tool, in transforming traditional English language teaching materials into interactive online quizzes for Vietnamese EFL learners. In the context of rapid digital transformation in education, many teachers still face significant challenges regarding time and technical skills when converting textbooks, worksheets, and supplementary materials into effective digital assessment tools. This research proposes a practical framework for using Gemini to automate this process by generating high-quality multiple-choice, gap-fill, matching, and open-ended questions that align with specific learning objectives, CEFR levels, and the Vietnamese national curriculum. The methodology involves selecting authentic teaching materials, designing structured prompts, conducting expert validation, and piloting the quizzes with EFL students. The findings demonstrate that AI-generated quizzes can substantially reduce teachers’ preparation time while maintaining strong pedagogical quality, enhancing learner engagement, and providing immediate feedback. The integration of Gemini supports personalized learning pathways and formative assessment in both online and blended learning environments. This approach offers a feasible and scalable solution for English language educators in resource-limited settings. The study also discusses the opportunities and ethical considerations of AI implementation, emphasizing the essential role of human oversight to ensure accuracy and cultural relevance.
