Speakers
Description
This poster presentation illustrates a teaching experience from a high school in the countryside of Gia Lai Province, Viet Nam. In many speaking activities, students often understood the lesson content but still hesitated to use English. Some students stayed silent, avoided answering, or only produced a few short sentences because they were afraid of making mistakes or being judged by classmates.
To address this situation, the teacher gradually built a learning ecosystem that gave students more time to prepare before speaking in class. Instead of being required to answer immediately, students were allowed to practice at home, record themselves speaking, revise their responses, and then submit or present their work later. The process combined several digital tools, including Padlet, Blooket, hoclieu.vn, and AI-assisted tools such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
After several months of implementation, the teacher noticed some major changes. About 78% of students reported feeling more confident when speaking English, while 76% said they became more interested in English lessons. Around 92% regularly completed and submitted speaking tasks on Padlet. Many students were also able to deliver longer and more organized presentations than before. The classroom atmosphere became less stressful because students had opportunities to prepare, retry, and improve before presenting.
The poster also addresses a number of the challenges, especially students’ dependence on AI-generated answers and the ongoing need for teachers to guide the learning process.
