Description
This study details an action research initiative that combines experiential learning activities with the STEAM model to improve English speaking and presentation skills for 10th-grade students through interdisciplinary themes. Recognizing that high schoolers often struggle with pronunciation, structural organization, and communicative confidence, this classroom methodology transitions from traditional template-based dialogue drilling toward contextual real-world performance. Grounded in David Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory and integrated education models, the pedagogical framework consists of five interrelated pedagogical measures. First, teachers establish competency-focused, multi-disciplinary presentation rubrics that guide group orientation and student self-assessment. Next, students engage in hands-on classroom mini-projects where they apply scientific, environmental, or artistic concepts to construct visual products alongside targeted spoken outcomes. Furthermore, the methodology leverages structured presentation video models, such as historical and technical TED-Ed lessons, to develop logical speech design. To enhance voice quality and fluency, students utilize Google AI Studio text-to-speech tools for dedicated phonetic imitation and intonation marking. Finally, the framework culminates in physical gallery walk exhibitions combining interactive project displays with spontaneous speaking opportunities. Statistical assessments gathered across a study involving 90 students demonstrate substantial growth in public-speaking confidence, organizational clarity, and collaborative skills. Participants will gain practical strategies for embedding integrated multimedia assets and task rubrics into foreign language speaking classrooms.
