Workshop Technology and L2 Learning Workshops

Speakers

Damone SINGNGAM (Luang Prabang Teacher Training College, Lao PDR.)Ms Phonesukha INSISIENGMAI (Savannakhet Teacher Trainning College, Lao PDR.)

Description

In today’s digital era, technology has become an integral part of daily lives, changing the ways English language learners (ELLs) communicate in both their first language (L1) and their second language (L2). Twenty-first century media platforms including TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp offer valuable opportunities for mobile assisted language learning to engage ELLs through familiar technology they can access easily through their cell phones.

This workshop will explore practical ways of integrating technology into English language teaching through technology that university and secondary students use every day for communication and self-expression. The presenters will provide evidence of student engagement and examples of student work that support the effective use of social media to promote conversational fluency and learner autonomy. Participants will learn how to adapt and modify these methods for use in their specific contexts, to support English learning through authentic tasks that are meaningful to the students they teach.

The session promotes teacher professional development by encouraging participants to engage with updated educational technologies, collaborate with peers, and reflect on innovative teaching practices. Through interactive discussions and hands-on activities, participants will learn practical methods for gradually transforming low-tech classrooms into more interactive and technology-supported learning environments. The workshop ultimately aims to empower teachers to become adaptive, creative, and lifelong learners who can effectively prepare students for communication in a rapidly changing global society.
