Description
Developing authentic and fluent oral production remains a core challenge in English language teaching. Grounded in Paul Nation’s Four Strands framework, this workshop demonstrates how educators can strategically utilize authentic magazine articles to achieve a pedagogical balance among Meaning-focused Input, Language-focused Learning, Meaning-focused Output, and Fluency Development.
Participants will first acquire explicit criteria for selecting narrative-driven magazine sources that stimulate real-world discussion. The session then explores methods to extract high-level lexical chunks and discourse features from these texts. To optimize internalization, generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are introduced to convert text into contextual audio and imagery, enabling learners to absorb native-like intonation and visually anchor their ideas.
Finally, a comprehensive lesson blueprint featuring interactive tasks and timed fluency techniques (4-3-2 method) will be shared. Attendees will master a well-balanced, tech-enhanced approach to transform static textual input into dynamic, confident spoken output.
