Description

The rapid shift toward English as a second language (L2) in the region demands a level of differentiation and assessment frequency that often leads to significant teacher burnout. This session addresses the "time-poverty" of ELT practitioners by exploring how Generative AI can be transformed from a simple chatbot into a sophisticated, reliable teaching assistant. Moving beyond surface-level AI use, this presentation focuses on the practical integration of AI tools specifically for curriculum design and assessment. We will dive into the mechanics of "pedagogical prompting"—the art of crafting instructions that result in curriculum-aligned lesson plans and rubrics tailored to specific student proficiencies. By moving from generic queries to structured frameworks, teachers can ensure the AI output maintains academic integrity and pedagogical value. The session is designed to be highly interactive. After examining successful prompt frameworks for both formative and summative assessments, participants will engage in a hands-on "prompt-thon." In this collaborative segment, attendees will practice drafting and refining their own prompts to solve real-world classroom challenges. By the end of the session, participants will leave with both a curated toolkit of AI strategies and the confidence to design high-quality, data-driven materials in a fraction of the usual time.
