Description
This workshop introduces language learning as a creative and human-centered process in which AI can promote imagination, expression, and engagement. Through an AI-powered visual storytelling workflow using ChatGPT, Google AI Studio (Nano Banana), and Canva, participants will explore how AI-powered comics can enhance reading comprehension and writing fluency in English language classrooms. The workshop draws primarily on classroom context with young learners. The session highlights how visual storytelling helps students comprehend texts more effectively, organize ideas more clearly, and participate more confidently in writing activities. During comic-based tasks, increased learner engagement and willingness to communicate are observed and noted. Although these examples come from younger classrooms, this approach can be adapted for older learners by selecting themes appropriate for their interests and experiences. During the workshop, attendees will complete a short hands-on activity by generating AI-supported visual scenes and arranging them into a simple comic panel sequence using Canva without requiring advanced technical skills. Prompt templates and additional resources will also be shared with participants for their future classroom applications. By the end of the session, participants will leave with a practical workflow and adaptable ideas for integrating AI-assisted visual storytelling into their own teaching contexts with attention to ethical AI use and learner agency perspectives.
