Description
This article explores the potential of EduEnglishAI as a prototype AI-supported platform for Vietnamese EFL writing instruction. Writing is an important but challenging skill for high school EFL students, who often struggle with grammar, vocabulary, organization, coherence, and idea development. At the same time, teachers in large classes may find it difficult to provide timely and detailed feedback for every student. EduEnglishAI was designed to address this issue by combining automated writing assessment, teacher review, student revision, progress tracking, and motivational features. The platform allows teachers to assign writing tasks, review AI-generated feedback, monitor submissions, and track students’ progress, while students can receive immediate feedback and revise their writing through a Version 2 submission. This study adopts a prototype-based exploratory design supported by preliminary trial data. Preliminary data from an eight-week trial with 492 high school students showed that average writing scores increased from 6.5 to 7.3, while assignment completion rates rose from 70% to 92%. The mean difference between AI-generated and teacher-generated writing scores was 0.2, suggesting the possible usefulness of AI as an initial assessment support tool. However, as EduEnglishAI remains at the prototype stage, these findings should be interpreted cautiously. Further research is needed to validate its effectiveness in real classroom implementation.
