Description

This presentation investigates how AI-generated dialogue activities combined with personalized speaking tasks can enhance speaking confidence among Vietnamese EFL learners. Grounded in communicative language teaching, learner-centered pedagogy, and willingness-to-communicate theory, the study responds to the challenge that many students in Vietnamese classrooms experience anxiety, limited spontaneous language production, and fear of making mistakes during speaking activities. The study was conducted with EFL students in MeKong Delta over several weeks of classroom implementation. AI tools such as ChatGPT were used to create level-appropriate dialogues and personalized speaking prompts connected to students’ daily experiences and interests. The instructional procedure integrated guided reading, personalization, and glance-based speaking practice to encourage more natural communication without overreliance on memorization. Data were collected through classroom observations, student reflection responses, and informal speaking performance comparisons before and after the intervention. The findings indicated noticeable improvements in student participation, willingness to communicate, and confidence during pair and group interactions. Students appeared more engaged when speaking activities reflected familiar contexts and allowed opportunities for personal expression. The presentation will provide practical classroom examples, sample AI prompts, and adaptable teaching strategies that participants can apply in their own EFL contexts to promote more confident and meaningful student interaction through AI-supported speaking activities.

Biography

My name is Loc, and I am an EFL teacher in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. I am interested in AI-assisted language learning, speaking pedagogy, and learner confidence in Vietnamese EFL classrooms. My current work focuses on integrating technology-supported communicative activities and AI-generated materials to create more engaging and meaningful speaking opportunities for English learners.
