Description

This presentation explores how Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) empowers EFL teachers to design high-quality, differentiated listening materials tailored to learners’ diverse proficiency levels. In Vietnamese tertiary education, where classes typically include both English majors and non-majors with mixed abilities, creating suitable listening resources remains a time-consuming and challenging task for many teachers.
Drawing upon Differentiated Instruction (Tomlinson, 2017) and the TPACK framework (Mishra & Koehler, 2006), this session presents a systematic workflow that integrates prominent large language models — ChatGPT, Grok, and DeepSeek — with advanced text-to-speech tools to produce natural-sounding listening audio. The presenter will demonstrate concrete examples of complete AI-generated listening tasks across CEFR levels A2 to B2, designed specifically for Vietnamese university students.
Preliminary classroom trials indicate that this AI-integrated approach can substantially reduce material preparation time compared to traditional methods, while resulting in more engaging, contextually relevant, and effective listening resources. Students also reported higher motivation and better listening comprehension when materials matched their proficiency levels and interests.
Participants will gain practical prompting strategies, a replicable step-by-step framework, quality evaluation checklists, and ready-to-use prompt libraries. This presentation offers EFL teachers an efficient and sustainable way to harness Generative AI for innovative and learner-centered listening instruction in the digital era.

Biography

I am a Lecturer at Bac Lieu University, where I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language for over 10 years. Holding a Master’s degree in Theory and Methodology of Teaching English from Can Tho University, I am responsible for training both English-major and non-English-major students. My teaching focuses on developing all four English language skills — listening, speaking, reading, and writing — with a strong emphasis on practical communication and learner-centered approaches.
Throughout my career, I have worked with diverse groups of students, ranging from first-year undergraduates to final-year English majors. I am deeply passionate about exploring innovative approaches to language teaching, particularly the integration of educational technology to address real classroom challenges such as large class sizes, mixed-ability levels, and limited preparation time. Recently, I have been actively experimenting with Generative AI tools, including ChatGPT, Grok, and DeepSeek, to design more effective and differentiated teaching materials.
This presentation on AI-enhanced design of differentiated listening materials reflects my strong commitment to supporting fellow EFL teachers in Vietnam by bridging traditional teaching practices with emerging digital technologies for more efficient and sustainable instruction.
