Description
This study investigates pre-service teachers’ perceptions and readiness for English-medium instruction in Vietnam’s emerging second-language policy context. Focusing on full-time undergraduate students, the study is expected to survey 200 pre-service teachers at the University of Danang – University of Education. Guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior, teacher cognition, and EMI/CLIL perspectives, the study adopts a mixed-methods design using a Likert-scale questionnaire and follow-up open-ended responses. The questionnaire examines seven dimensions: policy awareness, attitudes toward English-medium instruction, self-perceived English proficiency, pedagogical readiness, institutional support, anxiety and concerns, and intention to use English in future teaching. Expected findings may reveal generally positive attitudes toward the policy, but moderate levels of instructional readiness due to concerns about English proficiency, classroom communication, learner comprehension, and unequal learning conditions. The study is expected to offer implications for teacher education, particularly EMI/CLIL training, bilingual pedagogy, practicum design, and institutional support.
Keywords: pre-service teachers; English as a second language; EMI; CLIL; readiness.
