Description
This study investigates how ESL teachers at a university in Vietnam integrate AI tools—ChatGPT and ELSA—into their instruction of speaking and pronunciation to non-English major university students. As AI becomes increasingly common in language classrooms, educators face the dual challenge of leveraging technological efficiency while maintaining their pedagogical presence. Grounded in practical teaching contemplation and mindful technology integration, this research examines three key areas: (1) teachers’ emotional experiences using AI tools; (2) the influence of these tools on their teaching methods and classroom practices; and (3) how teachers reflect on their roles and identities in response to AI adoption. Using a qualitative narrative inquiry approach, the study collects detailed personal stories from ESL lecturers to capture both the opportunities and tensions that arise from AI-supported teaching. The findings aim to offer practical insights into designing balanced, ethical, and emotionally aware teaching practices that promote student engagement and pronunciation development, especially within Southeast Asian higher education contexts. This research contributes to emerging scholarship on mindful AI integration and the evolving role of teachers in AI-enriched ESL classrooms.
