Description
In an era where AI technologies are rapidly reshaping education, English language teachers often face uncertainty about how or whether to engage with tools like ChatGPT. This interactive workshop challenges the narrative of replacement by reframing AI as a partner in teacher growth. Grounded in Shulman’s framework of teacher knowledge (1987), this interactive workshop explores how ChatGPT can support the development of core professional domains such as content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, and knowledge of learners and contexts.
Participants will be guided through three stages:
- “The Why?” tackles common fears and misconceptions about AI and the importance of embracing AI as a supportive tool;
- “The What?” introduces practical and imaginative use cases for ChatGPT in self-directed development;
- “The How?” offers hands-on experimentation with prompt design tailored to individual teaching needs.
By the end of the session, participants will not only understand how ChatGPT can be aligned with professional development, but also walk away with adaptable strategies and prompts to continue the journey independently. This workshop empowers teachers to see AI not as a threat, but as a creative catalyst: a tool that, when used well, can liberate rather than limit.
