Description
In the era of digital transformation and global integration, the dominance of social media in modern student life demands a reevaluation of traditional teaching methods in higher education. Among digital platforms, TikTok has emerged as a favorite among youth due to its short-form, dynamic, and engaging video format. This presents a unique opportunity for English language educators to explore new approaches for developing students' communicative competence.
This paper explores the theoretical and pedagogical potential of TikTok as a supplementary tool for enhancing English communication skills among university students. Drawing on social constructivist theory and digital literacy frameworks, the study synthesizes relevant literature and emerging classroom practices to analyze how TikTok videos can motivate learners, support self-directed learning, and provide authentic opportunities for speaking and listening practice. It proposes a pedagogical model for TikTok integration and reflects on practical implications, challenges, and directions for future research.
The findings suggest that TikTok can foster communicative competence, enhance learner autonomy, and develop cultural awareness—key skills in sustainable English education aligned with Vietnam’s goal of international integration.
