Description

In the context of globalization today, the IELTS certificate has opened up many opportunities for study as well as work. However, many students struggle to improve their language skills and find speaking skills most difficult to enhance because learners tend to make mistakes when speaking unconsciously, especially when there is a shortage of practice environment for Vietnamese learners of English in general, and IELTS learners in particular. This case study was conducted on a group of 12 learners at Active English Center, Da Nang city, practicing with ChatGPT to enhance grammatical accuracy in IELTS Speaking Part 3 within 6 weeks, and a post-questionnaire about the perceptions after using ChatGPT to enhance grammar in speaking. The study used IBM SPSS Statistical Software to check the normal distribution of data and performed a paired sample t-test to analyze quantitative data, combined with the thematic analysis method for analyzing the data collected from the open-ended questions. The findings show that ChatGPT helps IELTS learners enhance their grammar accuracy with great improvement and thus improves their speaking proficiency. In addition, ChatGPT has a positive impact on learners, and they tend to use ChatGPT to improve their English proficiency.
