Description

This paper proposes a new pedagogical model that positions nutrition as a gateway to sustainability education within English language classrooms. Framing the act of eating as both personal and political, the model empowers students to examine global systems of food production, consumption, and inequality while acquiring English language skills. Grounded in systems thinking, eco-literacy, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this model aligns with global citizenship values and addresses urgent challenges of climate change, health disparity, and food injustice. Practical applications and assessment tools are also provided.

Biography

Bui Anh Hao is a second-year medical student at Danang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy (Vietnam), with a deep interest in interdisciplinary research and education for sustainability. His academic curiosity lies at the intersection of health, environmental science, language education, and youth engagement. He believes that scientific knowledge becomes truly transformative when it is made accessible and relevant to diverse audiences - especially young learners.

Despite his medical background, Hao has actively engaged in educational initiatives that promote eco-literacy, global citizenship, and systems thinking through innovative pedagogical models. He is the founder of Nutrition For Greener World Foundation, an emerging educational platform that bridges nutrition science with sustainability and youth empowerment. Through this initiative, he has developed workshops, bilingual educational materials, and global youth dialogues on food systems and climate resilience.

Hao's passion for learning extends beyond the classroom. He regularly participates in national and international forums related to sustainable development, health literacy, and interdisciplinary teaching. He is also a dedicated content writer and community facilitator, aiming to bring science and sustainability education closer to local communities in Vietnam and beyond.

As a young changemaker and future healthcare professional, Hao envisions an educational landscape where sustainability is not an extra subject but a mindset integrated into every discipline - including medicine, language, and everyday life.
