Description
Learning English as a second language is often difficult for learners who are learning in a language which is not their mother tongue. Speaking skills always played a pivotal role in learning foreign languages as they are essential in job employment. However, many students have difficulty in speaking even though they have studied for many years. Besides, the textbooks used by English teachers were still not enough to fulfill the students’ need in learning speaking skill. Therefore, the study was carried out to explore teachers’ perception for developing e-book teaching materials to enhance students’ speaking performance. Questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were employed to collect data from eight-four high school teachers. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics while the data from the qualitative were coded and analyzed in themes. The findings of the research indicate that teachers had a positive perception for developing e-book teaching materials to increase the interest of students in learning speaking skills. The findings also reveal that e-book teaching materials are an effective tool to enhance students’ speaking skills, motivate them to engage in speaking English. Future implementations on developing e-book teaching materials are thus recommended for educators.
