Description

Scientific research plays an indispensable role not only in knowledge creation but also shaping professional identity and future career readiness, especially with university students (Bui & Tran, 2022). Given the importance of scientific research in higher education, it is crucial to encourage students in more research activities. Understanding the factors that influence students’ research motivation, therefore, becomes an important step toward building a more supportive and engaging research culture in universities. This quantitative study aims at exploring intrinsic and extrinsic factors affecting students’ research motivation. Data were collected through a survey with the use of convenience sampling in 183 third-year students in the Faculty of English and Culture, University of Languages and International Studies and analyzed using statistical techniques including descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression via SPSS. The study identifies 06 main factors influencing research motivation in students, namely, research competency, attitude, individual conditions, supervisor support, university policies, and resources and facilities. Based on these results, several implications are also suggested for fostering scientific research in university students.
