Description
In the current 4.0 era, the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created new opportunities in education, especially in English language learning. ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI and launched in late 2022, has become a prominent AI tool due to its diverse applications, particularly in supporting English writing. This study investigates the perceptions of third-year English-majored students regarding the use of ChatGPT as a support tool for academic writing. The research was conducted at Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 during the sixth semester of the academic year 2024-2025, with 70 participants enrolled in academic writing courses. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through a structured survey comprising both quantitative and qualitative questions. The findings revealed that a majority of students perceive ChatGPT as a helpful resource for idea generation, vocabulary enhancement, and sentence restructuring. Many participants reported that the tool contributed positively to their writing process and confidence in academic expression. However, concerns were also raised, particularly about overreliance, ethical considerations, and the accuracy of content generated by the AI. These findings have implications for curriculum design and the integration of AI tools in language education, emphasizing the need for critical AI literacy and responsible usage.
