Description
The SEA-Teacher Program is a collaborative initiative among Southeast Asian countries initiated by SEAMEO, aiming to enhance the intercultural competence and teaching skills of prospective teachers through cross-cultural teaching practicums. Lambung Mangkurat University is one of the active institutions participating in this program. The urgency of this study arises from the complex challenges faced by participants during their placements, including language barriers, cultural differences, and diverse educational systems. These conditions significantly affect participants' teaching effectiveness and adaptability, thereby necessitating thoughtful strategies and deep reflection to address them.
This study employs a qualitative research method with a reflective analytical approach. Data were collected through interviews, teaching practicum reports, and participants’ reflective journals. The analysis focuses on identifying intercultural, linguistic, and pedagogical challenges, as well as the adaptation strategies employed—such as collaboration with local teachers, modification of teaching methods, and the integration of cultural experiences into pedagogical practice.
The result of this study is to document the personal experiences of student participants in the SEA-Teacher Program through reflective narratives that are both educational and inspirational. These narratives are intended to serve as valuable learning resources for future participants, educators, and policymakers, while also fostering a deeper understanding of cross-cultural dynamics in education. Furthermore, the study aims to highlight the core values of tolerance, diversity, and regional collaboration as essential elements in the personal and professional transformation of prospective teachers.
